IT’S ALL GOOD

A few weeks ago, I got a frantic phone call from a budding entrepreneur, daughter of a long time mentor of mine. She was so upset, fed up with ‘people’ and almost overwhelmed with counting the costs of her recent venture that was meant to make some quick dosh over the summer.

Back in July, she was so excited about getting a stall at the world famous Notting Hill Carnival, and we talked about her plans, strategy etc. She set about pulling things together and invested quite a big chunk of money (savings) in anticipation of the ‘guaranteed’ sales as there would be several thousand people over the two days of the event.

However, after the gruelling preparation, event days, and after event activities, she was at her wits end. She had a large freezer of prepped goat, jerk chicken and several other items left over. She could not ‘comprehend why adults could not use their ‘common sense’ as she had to ‘do everything and micromanage everybody’ She was emotionally and physically exhausted. She had made a huge loss.

PERSPECTIVES

After talking with her for a while, we agreed on 3 key things.

1. She has got some priceless feedback from ‘doing’ and was wiser on how to do things differently next time.

2. She has acquired some equipment and was officially on her journey (to world domination). 99% of people never get started on their dream, so she has already made the leap!

3. She had a ‘day job’. This was a side gig and she had used her savings. It could have been a lot worse if she had borrowed the money, and was depending on this as her only source of income.

IT’S ALL GOOD, Always

Quite often things do not go as planned. How do you deal with that? Do you get frustrated, blame others and feel defeated, or do you see it as vital learning steps towards accomplishing your goals. No matter what happens, if you look closely enough, there will be some good things that you can take from it. I am rooting for you. Keep going!
