A few months ago I read the book RAVENOUS by Henry Dimbleby, co-founder of the restaurant chain LEON, and author of the acclaimed UK National Food Strategy. The book ignited a deeper interest in the goings on in my industry and set me on a course in search of more knowledge.

I have subsequently read SPOON Fed (Tim Spector), ULTRA PROCESSED PEOPLE (Chris Van Tulleken) and I am currently reading IN DEFENCE OF FOOD (Michael Pollan), a book that has been on my shelf for quite a few years, until my recent awakening =(. I am shocked to learn of the appalling outcomes on our health, which is possibly linked to ‘dietary excess’.

Basically, we are getting more ill, as a result of what we are eating, (how much of it we are eating, and the nature of these ‘foods’). Do you know that 28 percent of Britons are obese, and that we spend £6 billion a year on diet related diseases?

FOOD IS REALLY AND TRULY THE MOST EFFECTIVE MEDICINE – Anonymous

Whilst there are huge areas beyond my control, I feel I am on the front line and I am even more resolute to play my part in combating this epidemic.

Right from the start of Jerk Station, we decided to use fresh, natural ingredients, eliminate salt, dump additives/taste enhancers, and use the best quality produce that we can find. Through careful thought and deliberate intention, almost 50% of our food offering is plant based, we offer a wide range of Gluten free options, and we are constantly looking for ways of improving our processes to keep producing quality, healthy meals every day.

EAT WELL, LIVE WELL - Anonymous

As 2024 rolls in, I urge you to start a habit of consciously choosing what you eat. It may not be easy, and it might take time to adjust, but I believe it is well worth it. We will keep doing our part, will you do yours? YOU can do it, Let’s DO IT!

see you next month …..

Here comes 2024!

2023 has been a challenging year for us all with getting over the issues we all faced with Covid, high inflation, cost of living, but with the help of our friends and families we seem, in the most part, to be surviving, looking forward to improved times in 2024.

My staff and I would like to thank you all for your support for our business

and hope we can continue to

provide you with delicious

Caribbean food during 2024.
