King Charles III:

On 6th of May 2023, His Majesty Charles Philip Arthur George will be formally crowned King of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms. This is a huge event and many people are organising street parties and private parties to celebrate the event. There is a lot of excitement with streets and homes already bedecked in buntings and shops are overflowing with mementoes, ranging from chintzy, to super high end! It will only get worse, even as the rest of us are already totally fed up and want to move on to other things. According to a recent YouGov poll, 78% of the younger people are indifferent to the Monarchy.

LET’S CELEBRATE

Wherever you stand on the issue, it is safe to say that it is effectively kicking off this year’s party season. You may be thinking, ‘its time to celebrate, take some time out, gather some friends and family together, treat the staff...!’ Whatever your excuse might be, and however big(or small) it might be, the fact is that organising a successful party requires careful planning and execution. So, before you start panicking or getting overwhelmed, here are a few tips to help you on your way.

1. What is the purpose of the party?. Hint: it is NOT a birthday, or wedding, or bbq, or end of term… Those could be your excuse for the get together, but what do you intend to achieve at the end of the day? This is so key but often overlooked, leading to a lack of focus and perhaps waste of resources with mediocre results. For instance, a birthday party could be an excuse to ‘meet the neighbours’, or to network with the business titans in the town, or to launch a new book, or to nurture team dynamics, or to draw distant relatives together, or just to let your hair down!. Any of those end goals will affect the location, date, time, activities and everything that happens.

2. Choose a date and location that is suitable for your purpose and intended guests. The venue you choose will depend on the type of event you're planning and the number of guests you're expecting. If you're planning a small, intimate gathering, your home or a friend's home may be the perfect location. If you're planning a larger event, you may need to rent a venue, such as a banquet hall or community centre.

3. Set a budget: Before you start planning your party, it's important to set a budget. This will help you determine how much you can spend on things like food, decorations, and entertainment. Be sure to factor in any venue rental costs, as well as the cost of any other services you'll need, such as a DJ or catering

4. Plan the Menu

The food you serve at your party can make or break the event, so it's important to plan your menu carefully. Consider the dietary restrictions of your guests, and make sure there are plenty of options for everyone. If you're not a confident cook, consider hiring a caterer to take care of the food for you.

5. Entertainment: No party is complete without some form of entertainment. Depending on the type of event you're planning, you may want to hire a DJ, a band, or a magician to entertain your guests. Alternatively, you can plan games or activities that will keep your guests engaged and having fun.

6. Ambience: Decorations can help set the tone for your party and create a festive atmosphere. Consider the theme of your party and choose decorations that will complement it. You don't need to spend a lot of money on decorations – simple touches like balloons and streamers can make a big impact.

7. Guest list: Once you've planned all the details of your party, it's time to send out invitations. Make sure you give your guests plenty of notice, so they can make arrangements to attend. You can send invitations through the mail or by email, depending on your preference.

8. Clean up: Finally, it's important to have a plan for cleanup after the party is over. Make sure you have enough garbage bags and cleaning supplies on hand, and recruit a few friends or family members to help you clean up. Alternatively, you can hire a cleaning service to take care of the cleanup for you.

Organizing a successful party takes a lot of work, but with careful planning and preparation, you can create an event that your guests will remember for years to come. Follow these tips and strategies, and you'll be well on your way to throwing a successful party!

Some facts about the Coronation -

What is the Coronation? The Coronation is centred around a solemn religious ceremony that has remained largely unchanged for over 1,000 years and takes place at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday 6 May 2023.

Westminster Abbey has been the setting for every Coronation since 1066. Before the Abbey was built, Coronations were carried out wherever was convenient, taking place in Bath, Oxford and Canterbury.
