SPRING:
Monday the 20th of March marked the beginning of spring here in the UK. Spring symbolises new beginnings and transformations; it's a season of hope. A period of starting afresh. There is a lot of colour and vibrancy in the environment. After months of cold, cloudy and dreary weather, things begin to change. The sun shines more frequently, the days get lighter, the temperature begins to nudge up, flowers begin to bud, birds begin chirping. The mood is lighter, things are looking up?
Often, we ease into this new season by doing a ‘spring clean’, purging, dusting, getting rid of grime, dust and ‘stuff’ to make room and organise for a better, happier future.
The plants and wild animals begin to awaken from the winter slumber, birds and flowers bring colour and music to brighten our days. We feel reinvigorated.
ARISE AND SHINE:
It is quite interesting to me that Christians celebrate Easter (9th April 2023) in this period, almost mirroring the season. Easter is a festival that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus three days after his death by crucifixion. It is the joyful end to a period of fasting and penitence (lent). It is reminiscent of going through the dark, painful (3) winter months, and then coming back to life in Spring, with hope, opportunities and beauty.
Whilst I am an amateur on matters of Christianity, theology and religion, I certainly think there is something comforting, and encouraging we can learn from this. You may be facing winter in one or more areas of your life, but be assured that spring will definitely come. The sun will shine, the flowers will bud, and you will rise again! In the meantime, make room, spring clean and look forward to a new beginning.
